I was recently challenged at a site inspection by the adversarial engineer to produce my pocket ID card that we are required to carry for this particular state. I am licensed and current, but shame on me, I did not have my card. He says he is reporting me to the Board.

I generally peruse the quarterly letters of states where I am registered, but have never seen someone admonished for not carrying their card.

This ever happen to anyone?

Never have been requested to show it. Never the less, I do carry it with me at all times. It's in my wallet, right next to all of my other ID forms that I need to carry.

Dear Imminent,

That is the most unfortunate thing I've ever heard regarding PE credentials.

Yes, I carry mine in my work folio.

No, I've never been asked to present it.

No, I've never heard of anyone being cited -- for the card, or for the wall-mount certificate.

Tennessee is my locale...

Good on ya,

I do not carry, but 2 of the 4 states do not require it. I have to look to see if the others do.

I have never been asked for them, either.

That guy is looking to make friends isn't he?

I don't carry them, and I comply with the Paperwork Reduction Act by doing it.

My wallet is thick enough already.

I'd report him to the Boards, no kidding.

Give some guys a badge and it really goes to their head and they turn into something like Hardcastle.

Wow, what a jerk.

I carry mine in my wallet, but mainly just so I don't lose it. I'm no expert, but I've never heard of some sort of legal mandate to carry your PE card.

No worries. I'm sure your State Board will be bored with his complaint.

FYI, he's probably a disgruntled former Blegoyavich (sp - sorry), under the table employee. He was looking for a bribe and you didn't pick up on that? Shame on you! [bigsmile]

LOL, Mike.

By the way, what state is it? Just curious to see the wording.

What a jerk! Tell him to kiss you where you usually carry your wallet.

I carry mine. I've been asked to show it twice. First time they needed a copy of it to issue my business license. Second time was a Supply Chain Management IDIOT (was that redundant?) who demanded that I provide a copy (he wouldn't take three steps and copy it, I had to leave and return with a copy) before he would sign off on my doing a project. Other than that it just sits in my wallet and every couple of years (when it is nearly unreadable) they issue me a new one.

Have carried mine on occasion, but not required in my state, so haven't done it for a while. My credentials have never been questioned. With internet access to licensing data, it seems a bit ridiculous.

If your state requires it, carry it. If not, who cares?

He says he is reporting me to the Board.
You laugh out loud.

It's good to incorporate some humour into your workday.

Just remember that when you are reported to the IRS by someone, it also opens them up to an audit.

Same principle applies here...

I would have to carry over 40 of them - no WAY!!

As a matter of fact - most of my rubber stamps have been purchased without any ID or verification by the State Board...

Go figure..

Can anyone post a link to a law or rule in any jurisdiction that requires carrying your PE card?

Around here they don't even give you a ticket if you leave your drivers license home.
