Hi,

I am instantiating a document template of a part (with a linked sheet and drawings) into a product. When I create the document template, I am modeling everything on xy plane. However, the instanced parts are all unique and are generally rotated in the product context (ie. based on a rotated plane). The problem I am having is that when I instantiate the document template and the new drawing sheet is created, it rotates all my part drawings. Is there a way to prevent this and maintain orthogonal part drawings?

These are for fabrication so they don't need to know the rotation of the elements. Also, I can send screen shots if it helps.

Thanks,
Rob

Hello,
I have had the same problem in the past and the answer is NO!
Unfortunatly drawing view doesn't mantain associativity with projection plane. You can check this behavior outside PKT.

I have several details tied to the xy plane projected view and manipulated in the context of Assembly Design. The key is to open the CATPart in a new window and create your detail from CATPart.

Derek

Hi hypno71,

There has to be a way to do this... Surely the view could be tied to a custom axis system or something?

DBezaire - yes this works, but I don't want to do this 1000+ unique parts all based off the same document template. I am creating the drawing and tying it to the document template and then instantiating in the hope of automatically creating my 1000 unique drawings.

Surely someone has a way to do this....

Have you tried using "Modify Links" and set the pointed document to the specific CATPart?

This should have the view take into consideration the axis of the CATPart from which it was originated.

rbeson,
What version are you running? I will make you an example.

Hi DBezaire,

That would be great. I am running V5R21. Any example would be fantastic.
