Does anyone make a VFD that'll do this? 2

I'm looking for a VFD (pump application, so variable torque) that is NEMA 4 (Washdown or similar), 208V 1 Phase input driving 3 HP load max. The trick is to have a drive that'll restart automatically w/o manual input and at the LAST KNOWN FREQ w/o having to resort to a separate POT or enclosure.

It seems most drives have 4 billion programmable features, but a simple LAST KNOWN FREQ function is not present. Also, most drives appear to require hardwiring of auto restart, which is ok, but they also require a pot. to be wired also to provide FREQ reference info. Then you have to get a separate enclosure for the pot!

If anyone knows of one, please let me know. Thanks.

Ideally, the button controls would work. A knob works best for the technically challenged, but some quick training could overcome that.

We spec'd some smaller drives about 3 years ago and due to the heat and humidity (fish wholesaler in Atlanta), the NEMA 1 drives failed prematurely.

Does that help?

ABB Model ACS550 comes pretty close. Auto reset, speed or setpoint set by keypad buttons and return to running speed if setpoint controlled or if keypad speed is saved when set.

The tightest enclosure available is NEMA 12, however. For washdown or NEMA 4, you will need to put it in a suitable enclosure.

As far as 208V single phase, you can use a 230VAC rated drive and double the output amp rating for a single phase input. That would probably be a 7.5hp unit.

Being new to this board, it occurs to me that this might be interpreted as product or brand promotion. I don't know how else to answer a question such as in this thread. If this kind of response is unacceptable, please advise and there will be no more.

I think most drives will run to a setpoint already programmed in from a keypad. It's not a good idea to put the drive in a wet area unless unvoidable as the enclosure often costs more than the drive. You should be able to run the drive from a remote keypad in the wet area.

Thanks for the input. It seems that drives have become a high-tech items and the one with the most programmable features wins....99% of which I could care less and here I am asking for another feature :)

I was hoping this wouldn't be a research project, but it appears it's gonna be.

Hi TZellers,

The Taian E2 Series VSD sounds like the Drive you are looking for. Single Phase input, IP65 - Nema 4 enclosure rating, 3HP, 3 Phase output, Auto Restart etc.

Sorry about the commercialism but it sounded like you were having trouble finding what you really needed.

Cheers

sorry for the commercial, but you asked a specific question. AC TECH model MC, nema 4 or nema 4x, can be set up for autorestart. in keypad speed mode the unit should go back to previous keypad speed

Hello TZellers

You could also look at Control Techniques. They have an IP65 dirve family also that would meet you requirements.
If you have difficulty finding the data, drop me a line and I will see what I can find. - I have something somewhere.

Best regards,

Just FYI, the Taian E2 series drive is available in the US as Motortronics and TECO brand names, as well as several others that escape me at the moment. The Taian name is not used here.
