Does hydrogen contribute to decarbonization ?

It is too simplistic to think burning hydrogen will result in water, hence adding zero C02 to the environment.
However, hydrogen does not exist naturally in abundance.
Some form of extraction needs to take place and that will produce Co2 and other green house gasses.

Why then some companies invest in hydrogen technology and promotes hydrogen transition theories ?

You don't extract hydrogen.

You either create it from methane and capture the co2 that produces and then store it underground or use renewable electricity to create it from water.

So yes there will be some co2 involved, especially if you use methane, but much less than otherwise.

So why are some companies involved. Because they see it as the future.

The only ones green hydrogen process comes from H2 produced by water electrolysis with removable energy source like solar energy, wind energy or wave energy.

The others ones use co2 pat- way, and up to now nobody has storage underground CO2 coming from co2 recovery plants from exhaust gases.
