My question is... does a footing have to run around the entire perimeter of the exterior walls of a house if the stem wall has open sections.
In other words, can you put a footing only under the sections of stem wall that have a shear wall above them
and have no footing where there are openings to get into the crawl space?
The IRC says.
R403.1.2 Continuous footing in Seismic Design Categories
D0, D1 and D2. Exterior walls of buildings located in
Seismic Design Categories D0, D1 and D2 shall be supported
by continuous solid or fully grouted masonry or concrete
footings.
for example in the photo below. There are openings in the stem wall to get into the crawl space, do you have to put a single footing for the entire wall, end to end?
or can you just put a footing under each stem wall section?
