I am desparately looking for an exzmple of domed roof
Anyone has any?
(mainly application of wind on it)

Thanks

Do a search for planetariums and observatories.

The book Kootk referred us to, "The Stone Skeleton", has a chapter on domed roofs but it's geared towards the mechanics of them as constructed with compression-only material (stone & masonry), not about their wind load response.

Older versions of ASCE 7 had a clearer procedure for domes and arches.

Ron (Structural,
May I ask what version specifically? Do you have it by the chance?

What kind of diameter are we talking (for the roof)?

There are many different kinds of domes (geodesic, ribbed (Schwedler), lamella, etc.) and materials (concrete, steel, timber). There are multiple sources, not just one.

SKJ25POL...I have every version produced; however, they are under copyright protection so I can't post here. I will post the specific table for domes/arches so that you get an idea of the process....posting a partial reference piece with citation does not violate copyright. Will post tomorrow when I have a chance to scan the page.

Ron (Structural), thank you.
I do have ASCE 7-02 and 7-05. I was asking the version you said is more clearer on domed roofs.

Also jike (Structural) I did not know there are different domed roofs but i guess the wind loading will be same for all, doen't it?

Thank you for your helps

If the dome configuration is the same, I would expect the wind loads to be the same. Note that domes have different spring lines and different heights to the spring line and the peak (and of course spans).

I recall there was a very good article in AISC Engineering Journal about loads and forces on ribbed domes. I am guessing the publication may have been in the 60's, 70's or 80's.

SKJ.....look at ASCE 7-95, 7-93 and 7-88. You can also check ANSI A58.1

jike (Structural), I would greatly appreciate if you recall the name or title of article. I really appreciate it.

Ron (Structural), I don't have those versions. If you have and if is possible to just attach the domed roof part/example I really appreciate it.

Thank you both.

I no longer have access to this information. I am retired and I have passed on all this info to my younger colleagues.

I suggest getting an index of AISC Engineering Journals to look thru.

Did you check Example 11 in Section 3.9 of the 'Guide to the Use of the Wind Load Provisions of ASCE 7-02' by Mehta & Delahay?

Calculation of design wind pressure on domed roofs, is also explained in the Numerical Example 5.2.3 of the Wind Design Guide to ASCE 7-10 by Emil Simiu.
