I'm trying to understand the microstructural differences between Ti 6-4 that has a single solution (beta-50F for 1 hour, water quench) and age performed VERSUS 6-4 that has 2 solution cycles performed (first at beta-50F, second at beta-150F, both cycles for one hour and water quench) and then aged.
Is the heat treatment supposed to recrystallize two different size classes of primary alpha? Increase the size of alpha platelets in the beta grains? How are mechanical properties affected?
Appreciate any insight into this. Thanks-
