Hello All,

I want to know, what is the meaning of a double stress relieving on a low carbon Steel, I think, if the stress level of the parts is high, then a single treatment is enough to complete the stress relieving operation, by holding the parts at an adecuate temperature and time.

Thanks in advance for all your inputs

Best regards

Double stress relieving for low carbon steel, I do not know. Your suggestion of a single stage tempering is mostly found to be adequate.

I'm just one step away from being rich, all I need now is money.
( read somewhere on the internet)

"Double tempering" is done, for example on 4340, to prevent retained austenite from being present. The same is done on F6NM, and is required for NACE MR0175 compliant material for the same reason.

OGMetEngr,

Good evening, our customer, ask for a double stress relieving, it's not about a quench and temper heat treatment, in such case, I agree with you in doble tempering, in order to meet the NACE MR0175 requirement.

thanks for your input

My best regards

What temperatures are they requiring? If the second stress relief is less than the first, it will add no value unless extremly long times are used.
