Doubts icons on the Specification Tree

Hello,

I am trying to understand the meaning of the following specification tree ( see arrows in red) . Could somebody explain me what are the difference between the icon circular base(4) and Ass Level1 (1)?

Enclosed is the screenshot with the questions i am asking about.

You can't deduce it down, the icons can be confusing, I think the Word attachment from Ferdo will explain things. You just have to learn them by memory, there's some logic in the icons but some thing violate themselves.

Per example: the white paper supposedly signifies there is a physical file associated with the node, however a part has in an assembly a component node it's under which does not have a physical file but the icon does have the white paper.

Hello Kevin,
For long time I had the same opinion with you. When I started programming with CATIA I realized the reason for this "inconsistency".
The white page in the icon of an Instance Node means that this Instance Node references an item of the 'Documents Collection' of CATIA. A Component-Node icon has not white page because is not referencing any item in the 'Documents Collection'.
In other words white page means Document in memory or reference-to a document in memory and not necessarily reference to a physical file .
Think about the case where you insert a new part or product in your assembly. There is no physical file yet but an added item in the Documents Collection.

Gelfs, that actually makes some sense! Let me ask another question, why does the part component node have double gears? because it's an instance? I would associate, instinctively anyway, double gears strictly for assembly documents.

Hello Kevin,
In CATIA, an Assembly (.CATProduct) is a collection (the Products Collection) of Product-type (class) Instances. The Parts are wrapped-up in a Product class (and so called 'PartProduct').
Note:
1. Un-typed Products have two gears in their icon.
2. Typed-Products have their own, function specific, icons.
