When we started using NX4 I had lots of requests to make sure the drafting background was black but still having the modeling backgrounds the graduated colors. I talked with someone about this one time, I am not sure if it was John Baker or not and was told of a file that I had to edit to get this completeed, since it was not somehting handled by the customer defaults. We are no going to NX6 and will need to edit this file again, but I do not remember which file it was.

What you need to do is change the RGB percentages for the line titled 'Background' in the 'ugcolor.cdf' file in the UGII folder. If you wish for a default Black background, change the values of that line in this file to 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000.

Note that it's better to make a copy of this file and place it somewhere where it's protected and then just go into Customer Defaults and on the...

Preferences -> Color Palette...

...and in the Options section of the dialog, you can select this same edited file as the new standard for the current part file.

Now why one would ever wish to work with BLACK background drawings is beyond me? I use the Monochrome Drawing option with a White background (after all, if you're going make drawings, you might as well make them LOOK like drawings), which can be set-up on the...

Preferences -> Visualization -> Color Settings
