Drawing Check List

Does anyone have a handy drawing checklist for when they are checking drawings. I check a lot of different parts such as purchase parts, sand castings, machining of those castings, die castings, gears (mostly spur and worm), general machined parts (shafts, pins, bars, etc...), sheet metal, shims, bearings, gaskets, plastic parts (that need molds to be created), and assembly drawings. I'm sure that I have missed some but my point is that I check alot of different drawings. My company does not have any drawing checklist, nor does anyone here seem to use any such list. I am beginning to accumulate a small list on things but I would be extremely grateful if people on this forum could give their input or possibly post their lists if they use them. I realize that lists could be dangerous if people get into the habbit of just checking the list and not actually thinking about the part or assembly they are checking, but when you've got hundreds of drawings to check a pertinent list seems like a good idea to me, plus at the end of each list you could always remind people to think critically about the draiwng and not the list. I respect the opinons of those who post here and wouldn't mind hearing what you have to say.

Thanks,
Pete Yodis

FYI the administrators of this site have created a new forum for Drafting Standards and GD&T, it can be found in the Engineering Methods category. This question is not really related to SW, and should probably be posted in forum1103

I like to check for:
signatures
dates
proper title/nomenclature structure
missing dims
duplicated dims
extension line gaps
tolerance issues
draft/parting line issues
surface finishes
finish callouts
hole callouts
spelling
material callout

I think the list could go on and on and on and on and...

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

If this is what you do, you can probably make a macro to pop up the list in a window that would require you checking off boxes before the window goes away.

# 1 thing I check for in a drawing: CLARITY
