There are two ways to make drawing in NX
1. as a part of the model, so the drawing is saved in one single file with 3D-model
2. drawing is made and saved as a separate file

is there any technical advantage one over another method (except number of files)?

A few notes:
Have you looked at the file sizes of your models compared to your drawings ?
When you load an assembly , NX will read all the component partfiles, it will be nature be quicker to read fewer megabytes than if you do both model and drawing in the same file. - even if we use the "partial loading" option.

If you need to export your files to another company which happens to use NX, would you then want them to get you drawings or only the models ?

As many files as you have, you can have as many persons working concurrently, i.e I can create the drawing of your model, Person X can do the Machining at the same time.

You can have ( depending on company culture) different revisions of your model and the drawing.
i.e when creating the drawing i spell something wrong, i can then revise the drawing but skip the model.

Our recommendation is to use the Master Model approach, which is where the Part model and the Drawing are in different part files. In fact, NX is starting to assume that this is how you're working but we will continue to support both approaches, just that we feel having the Drawing and Model in separate files is the better approach. Note that some applications actually forces this situation, such as when creating an FEM model for analysis.
