Drawing Revision and Rev Symbols 1

When revising a drawing with several changes under the same revision I would like to individualy nuber each change in the description section of the rev block.

It would look something like this

Rev | Description
--------------------
| 1. xxxxx
B | 2. xxxxx
| 3. xxxxx
-------------------

Now I want to have rev symbols on the drawing in a trianbge with B1, B2, B3 where the number is in subscript associated with each change.

Is this possible with the Solidworks rev tool or do I need to do it manually.

We do what your talking about manually.

I have just tested this in the 2007 release. I am not sure the same options are available in earlier releases. I think if you are using 2005 and up this will work.

In order to get the results you desire you will have to have each rev in the Revision column read as B, B1,B2, B3, etc.

Now right-click on the corresponding revision row you would like a symbol of and select Revisions - Add Symbol. It will give you a symbol with whatever is typed into the Rev column in subscript.

To change the type of symbol you need to go to Tools-Options- (Document Properties Tab)-Tables-Symbol Shapes.

This should give you the desired results. Let me know if you need any further help with this.

Doing what you want will take up more room on your drawing. I suggest just list the changes without separate lines or numbering. I believe it is standard this way also.

It doesn't take up any additional room when done properly. The method I'm trying to describe is standard in aerospace.

I know exactly what you're talking about and know it's an aerospace practice. Unfortunately, I think you're gonna have to make the rev balloons a SW Block, and modify it according to what rev letter and item number for your revision is calling for. I believe the standard is a .375 circle with .160 text height for the letter & number (i.e. B9), and allowing the text height getting smaller for double digits (i.e. B12). I don’t think you can automate this using the SW revision function or using any other SW text tools. The software gets squirrelly with the text proportions relative to circle size. But, I think you might be able to modify the SW revision table to look like the standard as you stated in the first part of this thread.

Thanks for the input. It's really not worth the effort to do it manually, especially considering it wouldn't be appreciated in my current industry.
