Is it possible to create a default drawing template in NX7 - using local prefrences for layers, colors, ANSI vs. ISO, etc.?

Really need a definite answer for this.

Yes. Just create your own template setting it up how you want it to be and save it. Now if you're only interested in replacing the the existing template(s), go to...

...\UGII\templates

...and replace the existing template files with your files with the file names changed to match the ones you're replacing.

Or you could create a custom .xml file and run that from your User Startup directory.

John, thanks for the answer - it helps in more ways that you can imagine.

John,
Is there a way to set up new templates in a new subdirectory without changing the standard templates?

Yes. Create a folder somewhere (it can have any name you wish) but in is create a folder named 'startup'. In this folder place your copies of the template files (give them the same exact name).

Now set the environment variable...

UGII_USER_DIR=

...equal to the path to this folder that you created above (not to that 'startup' folder, but just to the first folder).

Now restart NX and the system should now be using your templates instead of the system versions.

John, when it comes to an Environment Variable like UGII_USER_DIR, other than setting it up in Windows System Environment Variables and ...\UGII\ugii_env_ug.dat, is there any other areas in NX7 that it could be evoked?

So other than those two .dats & a possible user.mtx - user preferences (modelling, drafting, etc.) cannot be set anywhere else, or be overwritten by default system files (like keep the UG Drafting Grid)?

Oops, that should have read "Like keeping the UG Drafting Grid on, even when the user prefers to have it off."
