Previous to SW 2009 I was able to go into the Drawing View Properties and select a different configuration of the assembly and select the check box “Link balloon text to specified Bom” then hit the click down and select the Bill of Materials. I’m not sure what changed but I can now see it but it’s grayed out. This allowed for using different configs and keeping one quantity column with the correct quantity. Any help to set me straight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

chancey,
I did a test on my test workstation SW2009 SP2.0 and seemed to work just fine.

I am having the same problems. I opened other assemblies as well and have experienced the same problems.

This will be grayed out or non-slective when you select a section view. You have to select a primary view to change the configuration. Are you sure your not trying to change a section view?

I'll test again on my end.

Also, what Service Pack are you on? That makes a difference.

I'm test SW2009 SP2.1

That option is still greyed out for me as well. I miss that flexibility.

Hi to all

you can do 2 of the workarounds:(that not always worked in SP1 and SP2 my machine is SW2009 SP2.1), such as:

Workaround 1 (changing the Windows folder theme) 1. Minimize SW window 2. RMB on the Desktop > Properties > Themes, choose “Windows Classic” or Windows xp (also without closing SW), the option is not greyed out (in my machine)

Workaround 2 (switching off and on all the Add-Ins) 1. Switching all the Add-Ins on, one by one (keeping all the other off), 2. And seeing, for every step, if the option is ‘usable’? (f.i. the Add-Ins that makes the difference in my pc is Solidworks Simulation, if I switch it on, all the others off, the option is usable). As you reported, turning on 2d Emulator Add-In, the problem disappeared.

The problem should be solve in SW2009 SP3,
thats according to SW.

hope that it will help you.

I didn't want to change my Desktop so I tried Workaround 2 and yes it works. How you got to that point boggles the mind. Thanks a lot wizardoz.

Sorry for the cross post in thread559-239076, I diverted it to here.

Same problem. I have config A on sheet 1, and both config A and B on sheet 2. I made Excel BOMs for each config on sheet 2 and hid them, but the check box to select the BOM for the balloons is greyed out.

I tried both workarounds, no luck. I have SW2009, SP3.

Thanks,

Steve

im sure you figured the solution out already, but i was having the same problem. i would break a view and save it while everything looked fine and dandy, then when i go to open the darn thing all the bubbles are gone! what happened was the breaklines some how moved therefore making the bubbles disapear. i found that if i slightly moved the breakline over a tad, the bubbles would come back. i have not found a solution to make this stop, even if i lock my views i get nothing.
