What should have taken 1 hour took 5 hrs this morning.
It takes 1-5 minutes to edit 1 cell in BOM, or regen, or save.

I have a dwg with 9,000 kb model size, dwg is 18,000 kb.
11 sheets of 11x17 size paper
Each sheet has 2-6 views/details on it.

I have Auto view update unchecked.
Also have gone through options to select faster options.

Is there a practical limit to the size of model, or number of sheets, or number of views that SW can effectively manage on 1 assembly drawing?

Thank you

There may well be a top limit ... but you are nowhere near it.

Which version of SW and SP?

Are you running an anti-virus which is checking every file? If so set it to ignore SW files.

How much RAM and VM is being used? (check the Task Manager)

Are you using the /3GB switch?

What other processes are running?

Are you working over a network?

Do you have Windows Desktop Search running?

Do you have Dissection running?

SW08 SP1.0
Anti-virus: only a scheduled scan once a wk.
RAM used: 584MB used w/o SW, 1G used w/SW
3GB switch: no, have heard of it, how to turn on?
No other apps, 38 processes but no hogs to shut down I know of.
Network: no, but backups are saved to server
Desktop search: yes. I shut it down and this helped some!
Dissection: what's this?
Thank you

Check the Help files for dissect files or design clipart.

It can be disabled at Tools > Options > System Options > Search.

Both Windows Desktop Search and Dissection will slow SW to a crawl.

Is the 3G switch not needed since I only use up 1G ram?
Dissection was off.
Thank you it is significantly better, any other tips bring 'em.

Adding the /3GB switch will not hurt. Although a few people have reported some instability with it, but that is rare and usually can be easily remedied.
