Drilling Feeds/Speeds

Hello Folks,

I'm looking for suggested drilling feeds and speeds. I've tried Machinery's Handbook and a few online calculators. The issue is that I'm using a very small drill and can't interpolate data. Here's the scenario:

Drill Diameter: 0.21 mm
Drill Type: HSS
Drilling Depth: 0.60 mm
Material to Drill: Brass C37700

Because it's a very small hole in soft material and critical for performance, I want to make sure that it get's drilled well the first time with no burrs and no need to chase.

Please let me know if I left out any important information. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I'd ask the manufacturer of the drills you want to use. The key to sucess is to hold the drill very accurately, clamp the workpiece firlmy and control the feed so as not to buckle the drill (peck drill against the stop and advance the stop a few thou each peck, but don't dwell). Finally don't run it too fast, because vibration, chatter/harmonics and tool wear will become predominant factors long before you get anywhere near the theoretical surface speeds extrapolated from conventional drill tables.
