Hi everyone,

I am trying to perform a drop test using "regular" ANSYS and transient analysis. I created a simple test model (horizontal plate supported by four beams on the top of which I "drop" a sphere). It worked. The spere hits the plate and rebonds. However, when I increased the mass of the sphere, at one point, the sphere goes through the plate. The sphere is the contact with initial velocity and the plate the fixed target. Is their anyway to increased the stiffness of the contact pair or should this problem be performed using LS-DYNA (which I don't have). The dropped object in the real model weights 5,000 lbs.

Thanks

Eric

Eric, you'll have to use small time steps to ensure that Ansys sees contact. If you're using Workbench, try changing the time step options for your contact pair to "predict for impact". You may also try increasing the pinball region. Good luck.
