Dropped Object Protection - Design & References

Hi All,

I have designed a dropped object protection platform using scraps of old references that were floating about the office. I'm confident of the methodology. However, I need to reference my work.

All the "references" and examples that I used ended up leading to: Veritas Report No. 82-0959, last published in 1983. I have not been able to find this ANYWHERE.

Anyone happen to have an old copy?

Appears that the report you referenced has been superseded by the current document "DNV-RP-C204, Design Against Accidental Loads" which is available (free), just below the middle of the page here:

Pages 19 through 21 should have the information you need.

This document is issued by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) which is a respected Norwegian foundation devoted to safety. Most of there work involves shipping incidents, but the referenced pages are for dropped objects. There are other documents available on this site which may be helpful from time-to-time.

DNV is widely used for offshore oil platform design.
They do a lot of dropped object analysis for the platforms.
I think that is a good reference.

Thank you both.

I have seen RP-C204, however it does not contain the formulae for deriving the capacity of beams, as were used in all those scraps I found. It seemed like it just outlines the general concept of analysis.
