UAE authorities say they have changed fire safety rules in the territory to address the rising danger from burning buildings, but haven't offered many details. Jetpacks, however, seem to be part of the plan.
The plastic laminated wrap material was outlawed several years ago. Not sure if the glue between the joints, which burnt up the side of a building like a fuse, was changed or not.
Next door in Sharjah, all newer high rise buildings have heliports. I used to wonder what they were for. I hardly ever saw a civilian helicopter around anywhere. Now I know.
The issue of this aluminum faced flammable cladding is not confined to Dubai or the UAE. The most reported fires have been there, but this stuff is endemic, wherever the Chinese have marketed the stuff. There has been one big fire in Melbourne, and a number of buildings in Australia where cladding had to be removed. Don't know about North America, but don't know why it would be immune.
