Is there a good source for conservative rule of thumb of weight of duct for varying sizes that includes:
- typical reinforcement
- option for insulation
- large fittings

I found this for spiral duct and this for some rectangular. it isn't complete and also may not include reinforcements and also no insulation.
Duct will be installed per SMACNA, but that gives options for gauge and spacing of reinforcements. I also have large transitions from a large louver and so on.

I don't need accurate data since that varies. But some better conservative estimate. the structural engineers say they have some ways of guessing. But I also had experienced structural engineers that really wanted me to provide that. I know it also depends on pressure class. So a lb/ft for a certain size and % added for higher pressure class could work.

Hi HVAC-Novice (Mechanical)

You can use ASHRAE Handbook, The ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) Handbook is a valuable resource for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems. The "HVAC Duct Construction Standards" manual is a particularly useful resource, CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) Guides: CIBSE guides, especially those related to HVAC systems, may provide information on the weight of ductwork.

thanks. I will check that out. I just realized ASHRAE stopped free online access to the handbooks for members. I have to wait till I'm back in the office next week.

So i got my ASHRAE online handbook access re-instated. I looked at chapter 19 of 2020 HVAC system and Equipment and Chapter 21 of 2021 Fundamentals and didn't see any weight data. Could you point me to what chapter those would be?
the online access isn't really online anymore (like when one could search the entire handbooks at once). now you just downloads the books or chapters as PDF.

I haven't been back in the office to look into the SMACNAE book mentioned above. IIRC last time I searched in there I didn't see any. could you say which chapter? Maybe once I see the book it will become obvious, though.
