Hy everybody, I'm working on the design of a heat exchanger and the client asked tubes of Duplex Stainless Steel 2205.
I couldn't find that material on ASME Section II - D, I could only find Duplex SS 2750.
Could the SS 2205 tubes be used for a pressure vessel calculated with ASME or should some other requs be fulfilled.
Please if anyone could give me some requirements or suggestions they'll be welcomed.
Thanks in advance!
Peter

yes they can be used. we use them all the time. they are in section II part D.
depends on the SA# probably SA789 or SA790 its alot easy to look up by P# 10H. Hope this helps.

Thanks ASMEQC, but the only material that I find with SA789 adn SA790 is S32750 (SS 2750) but I couldn't find the S32205 (SS 2205).
What do you mean with look up by P#?

Peter,

Please check Code Case 2488-2 regarding the use of these materials. It provedes the necessary information for your design.

I believe UNS S31803 (almost equal to 2205 DSS, and comes usualy dual certified) is in ASME II-D, but 2250 DSS (UNS S32205) isnt.
Maybe the Code Case fegenbush referred to allows it. Can you detail where in II-D 2205 can be found ASMEQC?

Peterway & XL83NL,

Guys I opened my mouth to soon. LOL
The tubes that we use are SA789-2205 (UNS #S31803) i do apologize for the confusion. I looked all through SEC. II part D and i did not find any tube or pipe the is UNS # S32205. Or any material that has that UNS #

Peterway do you have the tube on hand if so what does the MTR say they are.
I have a MTR from our last job and it is duel certified.

FYI, S32205 is not listed in Table UHA-23, therefore cannot be used in Sect VIII Div. 1 construction. S31803 is OK, and I would assume dual grade is OK, however, I would recertify it as straight S31803 per UG-10(a)to keep the AI happy....

Hi PeterWay,

Here's the link for acceptance of S32205, in SecVIII, DIV-1 code. The code case is 2637.

Thanks
