Hi

I am working on a Femap model and trying to mesh with little coarse elements because of my computer memory limitations. I am basically deleting the old mesh and redefining the new and I am getting this error message

"DUPLICATE GRID POINT REFERENCE NOT PERMITTED FOR ELEMENT TYPE"

and the warnings like

"UNABLE TO DEFINE ELEMENT ORIENTATION FOR TRI ELEMENT ---- "

Any suggessions to get rid of these errors and warnings and work with sufficient memory I have ...

neema1984,

I would say that you are using twice the same node to define a triangular element. Just a guess based on what you posted.

Thanks Spirit,

I am actually meshing automatically just by controlling the size. Not defining manually.
What can be the best way to mesh it ? .. manually for each surface ?

No offence intended, but it sounds like you need to learn the idosyncracies of your pre-processor.

Patran is a nightmare for being "unintuitive" - as are the rest.

My guess, it has equivelenced nodes and not cared that it is a ctria or you have managed to create an element along a line, it can happen if you are not careful when meshing or fixing manually.

My advice, delete the offending elements by hand or by scripts.

Or remesh.
