Dust collection & static dissipation

I was recently asked a question about static dissipation for PVC piping. A small wordworking shop has fabricated their own dust collection system, using PVC piping. In operation, static is produced within the piping. What is an effective way to dissipate this static?

try any antistatic elements - metal filters, metal inserts in the duct,with grounding?

Usually bare copper wire is wrapped around the pipe and the hoses to each equipment. There is a lot of debate about the need for this however. The myth has been generated in the home woodshops about the dangers of explosions. The biggest problem is the annoying tendency to get a small shock.

I have a 2HP Delta collector in my garage hooked up to a collection system. I might get small zap from my table saw every once in a while, but that is it.
