dwg assy hidden parts & bom 1

I create a dwg & bom of an assy. Within the dwg there are some assy parts I do not want on the bom or shown. I hide these parts & delete the row in the bom chart.

Sometimes when I go back into the dwg, the parts are not hidden & bom has them added again. I then hide & remove from bom.

Anyone know why this happens & how to avoid it?

Thanks

Updating to SP5 might help.

Do you have configurations of the assy? If so, make sure the BOM is referencing the correct one.

Hiding a part does not remove it from inclusion in the BOM (suppressing it will) and when the drawing is re-opened the BOM will be automatically rebuilt. You can de-activate that option if necessary.

In the assy, select the part, open the Component Properties and select the Exclude from bill of materials option.

If you want to permanently hide items from the BOM, just click on the BOM and then choose the "BOM Contents" button in the property manager. Click on the part icon for any row (I think) to "gray" the row. It will be hidden on the drawing, but retained by the BOM so it will not get added again. Of course, if you are using Excel-based BOM then this method is not available.

No configs for assy. But if I hide a part in the dwg, why does it sometimes reappear in the dwg & I have to hide it again? I understand what you are saying about the bom but the part should still remain hidden in the dwg. Sometimes it stays hidden & other times it does not.

I don't want to supress it in the assy because I use & reference it in the assy but don't want to show it in the dwg.

For example, I have a metal base with a welded bracket which has a cover on the bracket. I dont' want to supress the cover in my assy. I want to show the bracket being welded onto my base in the dwg but I don't want to show the cover in the dwg.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe if the part being hidden is modified in any way it reappears on the dwg after being hidden.

Yes, I've noticed your solution too Handleman. When you hide the parts it automatically grays them out in the bom contents.

I can deal with going in & removing the parts from the bom again if they come back but it is a pain when I have to go to each view to re-hide the parts if they appear again after being hidden.

I can also take the suggestion of updating the sp & also trying it on 2008 to see if the problem persists.

"Sometimes it stays hidden & other times it does not."
If you are saving the docs after hiding the part, that (obviously) should not happen. It may have been a bug in that SP. Try updating to SP5.

Follow what handleman suggests for SW BOM tables. In the BOM Content properties window, click the part/assy icon to make it look wire framed, this will remove the part/assy from your SW BOM table.

Clicking the "gray" column will allow you to reorder the BOM table.
