DXF export with exploded text

Hello,

I am trying to provide our supplier with a .dxf drawing exported from NX8. He is having issues with the fonts and requested the text to be exploded into geometrical elements like lines, arcs etc. I am not able to find this option. Could you please, assist?

Hi Tisho,
Probably your customer must be facing DXF issues due to TRUE FONTS (introduced NX8 and onwards) used in your drafting sheet.So probably before exporting the dxf try changing the TEXT style of your text notes to original fonts like for example BLOCKFONT and then export a dxf out of it.Since you have not saved your part file so you can undo the changes (changing fonts) to regain your original text fonts.

If the customer still requires the text to be converted to Polylines then i would suggest that you convert the drawing to CGM format first (CGM export has an option to convert TEXT to polylines).And then import this CGM in a balnk drafting file and finally export it as the final dxf format.
Sorry i am not aware if DXF settings let you do that (but i would say that try the first method and ask your custometr if he is ok with that.)

It should work If you change the following line in %UGII_BASE_DIR%\DXFDWG\dxfdwg.def

EXPORT_DRAWING_USING_CGM = YES

Hi Didier,
Actually even if it is exported with a CGM option also then the text is not exploded as expected (till the text font is changed to the original font).This might be my opinion but i would be happy if we get any breakthrough.
Just try it and help me know if am correct or not.

I am not sure about this particular setting (will let you know i come across anything about it for sure).Actually even if you try to export the drawing using EXPORT/CGM then i guess the true font texts are not exported as polylines as expected so that is the reason why i opined that probably we can change the text fonts to the old fonts (blockfont etc.) and then try exporting it (i guess the cgm export will give you the expected text -polyline conversion in this case.).Let us wait for some other expert replies also.

If I export to CGM it is doing the jobs. All I need is to set the drop down option output text to polyline.
The problem with the CGM is that I need to create an empty native file, import the cgm and resave it as dxf which is time consuming. With the same effect I can create a dxf without any text inside and send a pdf in addition, which is also not elegant when talking about some 30 drawings.

I tried to find the the solution from your hints above.
I changed the EXPORT_DRAWING_USING_CGM = YES. However the CGM translator is set to export the text as text by default. I even have some missing text.

How do I set the CGM export to export the text as polylines by default?. Then the .dxf tranlator will adopt this option by setting this variable EXPORT_DRAWING_USING_CGM = YES.

Once you go through the process of changing the text output option, "dialog memory" should save your choices for the next time you use the dialog.

If, by chance, you find a font that does work for you, you can edit your cgmdef.txt file (in your UGII folder) to do this for you automatically. That way you can use the font you like in your drawing and have it exported to cgm as the font that works for the export.
