Dynamic Gear Contact Problem

Hi all, great forum, been reading through plenty of older posts but can not quite find what I am after.

I need to create a dynamic model where one spur gears drives another spur gear, and I need to investigate the contact stress and bended stress of the gear teeth in contact throughout the rotating.

I have made a static model using abaqus that I used to verify the manual calculations were correct and I was happy with the model.

With my dynamic model:

I have kept my model 2-dimensional, I do not need any use of a 3rd axis for my results.

So far I have both gears (parts) modelled, and assembled in their correct position.

I have fixed a reference point to the centre of each gear to allow for boundary conditions to be applied.

I have been trying to work out how to apply the correct interactions/steps, but I keep running into errors and I am quite stuck.

I would greatly appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction from here.

I think you need to couple each reference point to the relevant gear first, then apply the loading (rotation) on the reference points.

So far I have already coupled the reference point at the centre of each gear to the inner surface of the gear.

I have also applied some displacement and rotation boundary conditions on the reference points, but I believe it is my interaction settings that are not letting my model run.

I planned to make my model work in 3 steps.

Step 1 : rotate the first gear slightly so it comes into contact with the slave gear
Step 2 : apply a moment at the centre of the first gear
Step 3 : allow the slave gear to rotate

Basically in step 3 is when I should be able to monitor the results of how the moment effects the stresses as the gears mesh.
 
just a question: did you use the plane stress or plane strain element?
 
it seems the problem raise because of the interaction. you can do following:

1- remove the interaction and let model run with no interaction. if it is running fine the problem is definitely for the interaction.
2- if the problem is on the interaction, then try to play with: load/boundary condition, material property, mesh
