Dynamic Storage Error?

I am running I-DEAS 9 on XP pro and am trying to mesh a model for ESC simulation.

Mid way through meshing the part, the following error appears:

'Insufficient Dynamic Storage, adjust the limits under Options, Preferences'.

When I go to Options, Preferences, Memory Usage, the following appears,

'Automatic memory tuning has been turned on.
To set parameters manually, change Memory AutoSetting to 0 in the param file and restart I-DEAS'.

How do I change the setting and where is this param file?

Am I looking at the correct option in Preferences?

Thanks in advance

You are looking at the correct option, but as the message says you need to modify you param file to allow you to change the settings.

Param file is within the Master\Config directory in the Team directory. Suggest you copy it off in it's original form so that you can go back to it if you make any errors while editing it.

As a guide Total Virtual Memory should be about 95% of your system RAM. but note the % values before you change it cos these will alter as soon as you make that change.

Thanks for the advice.

As you suggested I changed the Total Virtual Memory to 95% of my system RAM. I also changed the Dynamic Memory from 71% to 90%.

Despite making these changes I still get the same error.

Are there any other memory parameters I should consider changing or is it more likely that the model I have created is just too complex for my pc to solve?

It may be worth temporarily pushing your Virtual Memory up over the System RAM so that it starts to use your swap space. Performance will degrade but it might get you through the solve.

Check what your pageing size is on your OS, enlarge it if neccessary, then increase your Total Virtual Memory to something close to RAM + pageing memory.

If it does get you through the solve switch it back to your current settings because I-DEAS will run slower if it is using Swap space. If it still fails then maybe you model is too complex.
