Hi all,
I am new to this forum,i have a problem with a newly installed insruments in a heat exchanger project, the first problem is with E+H electromagnetic flow meter with transmitter, promag 50w, the reading on the FT screen is 217 m3/h and the FT is directly connected to an energy meter From contrec, which shows different reading ,180 m3/h, on the energy meter i triad to made the k-factor 00100.00 ,pulse /m3 with low cut off frequency .25hz, and made setting on Ft to give pulse output signal, the reading is not correct on the display please help.

Hi Ramzy
Are you using Frequency output or Pulse output ?
What is the configuration of your pulse output (i.e. pulse value on Promag 50) ?
E+H wrote that you may choose pulse = 0.05m3 for example for Full scale value of 300 m3/h.
If you choose a too high value on flowmeter, then you can have on the energy's meter an error because it will process the flow with its own clock reference and the time between two pulses.
Can you confirm your setup (on Promag 50)?

Ramzy

If your K-factor Range on contrec is 100.00 pulse / m3
that is meaning that your flowmeter should have a setup of : 1 pulse = 0.01m3 (that is better than 0.05m3).
So can you confirm your setup on Promag 50 and Contrec ?

Hi texagere,

Many thanks for ur prompt response, actually its my first project in instrumentation,so i didnt configure the FT neither the energy meter, i left most of the settings as default , the nominal diemeter size of thevflowmeter is 12inch, hence,u can find setting that correspond to this size from E+H ,i only changed the k factor from the energy meter side,i coukdnt figure out what to put at the FT since it mentions postive k factor and negative k factor, besides i noticed the unit of the k factor in the FT is p/m3 which the reciprocal atbthe energy meter m3/p.

Here the deault settings at the E+H FT

End value freq 1000 hz
Output signal passive positive
Freq time constant 0.00 second
Assign pulse volume flow
Pulse width. 100ms
Low flow cutoff 10 m3/s
Full scale value 750 m3/h
Pulse width 0.1 m3
Setting for flow at energy meter contrec
K factor 00100.00
Cutoff freq 0.25 hz.

Regards

I am using pulse output,as the energy meter have flow pulse inputs only

Hi Ramzi,

Thank you for these last information.

PROMAG50
>End value freq 1000 hz
Why are you sending End value freq value (1000 hz)? this is for frequency operation mode...
So please confirm that your promag 50w is working under pulse (operation mode) with "Freq.-/ Pulse Output" in pulse configuration.
>Low flow cutoff 10 m3/s: ok
>Full scale value 750 m3/h: ok
>Pulse width 0.1 m3
is it pulse width or assign pulse ? you should have 0.01m3 instead of 0.1m3.
because K-factor Range on contrec is 100.00 pulse / m3 that's mean you will have 100 pulses for 1m3 from flowmeter.
and 100 pulses X 0.01m3 = 1m3
>Pulse width. 100ms
your full scale is 750m3/h: with assign pulse egal to 0.01m3, at full scale, you will have a pulse each 48ms so I suggest to set a pulse width of 20ms.

CONTREC
What is the model ? 212 for example or other ?
Please confirm that input flowmeter of this heat calculator is in pulse configuration as you said with K factor 00100.00 pulses per m3 (and not in Frequency mode).

regards
Bruno

Hi Texagere,

first of all many many many many many thanks for ur support and dedication to assist me in configuring the E+H flowmeter in my first instrumentation project.
i made all configuration now only in PULSE mode.then somehow I managed to make the configuration between the E+H FT and the contrec Model 212, all worked out when i changed the Measuring units from SI to US, the pulse value became by default 26.417 Gal/Pulse, pulse width also by default became 100 ms, on-val.LF-Cuttoff 44.029 gal/ min, Off val.LF-Cutoff 50%.

from BTU side,
i changed the unit to US also, and as i told u the k-factor unit is the reciprocal of the pulse value in the promag,i.e k-factor at contrec is 1/26.417 aprox 0.04, and voila i got same flow readings on both now the E+H promag50w and the contrec 212.

reaaaaaaaaaaaally appreciate ur assistance texagere.............now i have to call the automation engineer to upload the software to the plc, and check the reading on the HMI,

I got another problem on E+T temperature transmitter (model TMT182 with 3 wire RTD T10)the issue is there is no display on the TT head u can only check the signal from the HMI what other checks can make on the TT so i know its outputing a signal from 4 - 20 mA

regards

Hi Ramzy,

I appreciate your feedback and I hope that you will keep this experience of FT and heat calculator configuration in your mind (we used in some applications pulse from FT to count volume and we have to set both side)
regards

Bruno

PS: you should open a new thread for the problem on TT to receive posts from, may be, other contributor too.

T10 is an Endress & Hauser model number. I think it's a 100Ω wirewound platinum, but haven't seen the literature in a while. 3-wire just means it has a third lead for compensation measurements to offset the error from lead wire resistance.

Best to you,

Goober Dave

Hi all

Thanks to everyone who helped me especially mr.texagere,

Now by gtace of GOD i solved the TT problem as well, was wrong conecction the the 3wire RTD ....now its reading on the hmi as well as the plc analog in,remaining is a silly instrument in the heat exchangwr room i dont know even why they involve it in the control system, the only thing made me look at it is that it is connected to the plc and showing 0 c degree on the hmi, the room sensor model is siemens qfa3160d, i only connected the u1 terminal which supplies temperature output from 0 to 10 v but i am getting zero only , the cables r good not open, any idea guys
