Hi All,

I have a EDG, Cranking motor current requirement at firing speed is = 1666A DC.

How would I size the Cable for this?
Cable to be laid between the Battery terminals to the Cranking motor terminals).

Length of cable from battery terminals to Motor terminal=150 meters.

Please advise.

Thanx in advance

refuses to provide a valid answer, just indicated >2000 kcmil. There are very good reasons to not place batteries at large distances from the engines they start.
suggests 6 parallel 1000 kcmil (500mm^2) sets, assuming 48V system, which is unlikely to be available.
This arrangement is one where providing calculations may be useful only to convince a client a concept is not worthy of significant effort.

Compressed air start is an off the shelf, reliable, widely used starting method. Admitted not as widely used as battery starters. In some applications air starters are preferred over battery start.
Your engine supplier should be able to provide a quote for the hardware components needed for your specific engine, and recommend a minimum storage volume for a specific number of starts.

If you place the air receiver on or near your generator skid you can run small piping from your facility to fill the receiver. This will be significantly less expensive than running the massive amount of cable your installation requires.

TDI makes the best starters, except for the Turbo Start 2 model. That one doesn't like wet air. We prefer pre-engaged over inertia start models.
