edge highlight selection gone in drawing 1

I'm on 2007sp3.1 and just recently a problem is showing up while dimensioning drawings. When the mouse moves over an edge of a part, the edge used to highlight before selecting it, now it does not and the precision is gone while trying to blindly select the edge with mouse clicks. It is somewhat easier to select the first edge, but second edge selection is very difficult. We design wire type displays, such as wire grids, shelving etc.. The drawing view is set usually to projected, but same thing happens in true mode. My current PC has been working great for over a year, no problems. Although the graphics card is not certified (geforce 8500GT) I haven't had any problems until the past week.
Since the problem started, I've played around with quality settings in system/document properties and cosmetic thread draft/high quality, also tried different display styles (shaded,wireframe,etc.) But no luck so far. Any suggestions appreciated.

Has Windows/Microsoft Update been run recently? Maybe it "fixed" something that didn't need fixing. e.g. mouse driver or video driver.

Have you tried a System Restore to a point before the problem started?

SW has a tendency to screw around with the settings in Tools->Options, System Options tab. Is "Dynamic highlight from graphics view" checked in the Display/Selection category? I believe importing an IGES file has a tendency to turn this off.

You hit it on the head handleman. I ticked the "Dynamic highlight from graphics view" and all is good now.
Thanks so much, just so happens I was importing some different types of formats such as iges about the same time the problem started. Good to know for the future.

Also, thanks Eltron. There were a couple of setting you showed me that had gotten turned off that were on before, such as selection of hidden edges in HLR and shaded mode (just noticed that it had changed) I also turned on anti aliasing for sketches/edges back on.
I am thinking the import of the iges files last week is what screwed up these settings (like handleman noted)
