editing INH directory file to make thread callouts decimal instead of fractional NX 7.5

Hello,

I've looked around the forum and have found similar questions, which end up with the answer "Edit your INH file". However, nobody ever explains how exactly to edit these files in order to make this happen.

I have unchecked the read only parameter on the file, and opened "ansi.atp.prt" (we are only concerned with UNC threads as of now), and see the thread call out I should be editing (1 1/8 -7 UNC 2B). However, I do not see any way to edit this and actually make the changes work.

I have tried disabling the thread and adding a new one, however under symbolic thread all that comes up for callout is the same yellowed out box "1_1/8-7..." and there is no way to edit this. I have tried editing the annotation, which does not work (in drafting) and also tried to directly edit the text (which it calls out as 1 <R1!8> however there seems to be no way to actually change this that will save once i click close.

I would think that rather than editing this file that there would be a xml file or spreadsheet with all of the threaded hole call outs that I would have to edit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is company policy to use decimal thread call outs for UNC threads.

After reading through a few more posts I have come to the conclusion that this is not directly possible to do? It seems like the files in INH can take care of most problems except for the fraction to decimal issue I am running into.

Can anyone confirm this?

I figured this out on my own... I'm not sure if it is the correct way to do this but under \UGS\NX 7.5\UGII\modeling_standards there is a file called "NX502_threaded_hole_standards.xml" that if you open in notepad and find and replace all the fractions such as "5/16-18 UNC-2B" and replace it with ".3125-18 UNC-2B". Now, when you go to insert feature parameters it shows ".3125-18 UNC-2B" instead of the fraction.

Are you sure that what you've basically been doing was wishing for something like the UNJ versus UN standard threads? The ANSI UN thread stnadard is based on using fractional call-outs, while the UNJ standard, which traditionally has been preferred by the aerospace industry, was based on the call-out being shown in decimal format. My advice, before you start editing text files and/or templates, is to look at using the UNJ series of Threaded-Hole standards (they're on the list of thread standards, just a little further down the list).

We concurrently use UNJ threads when applicable. I work for an aerospace company that deals with both UNJ threads and also UNC on a daily basis. However, on our biggest customers part prints even when it is UNC the diameter is called out in decimal form, therefore we like the operation sheets we make to match their print.

This may be helpful for someone down the line in my situation as it did solve the problem.
