Does anyone know of any sources for effectiveness-NTU graphs (or equations) for somewhat out of the ordinary heat exchanger configurations (i.e. not only cross, counter and parallel flow). I am looking for something that would handle a serpentine crossflow configuration where the serpentines run parrallel to the flow direction and could be either overall counter flow or overall parallel flow. Hope this makes sense! Thanks...

I'll recall you what my professor of thermodynamics said in the old times: the difference between an arithmetic average temperature difference and a logarithmic average temperature difference is normally only a few percent!
That is to say that very simple equations are almost always sufficient to figure out and even to design a heat exchanger. prex

Try this book:

The fundamental of Heat and Mass transfer/ or Introduction to Heat Transfer; by Holman or Incropera&Devitt.

Both are basically the same book with one thermo chapter difference.

Sometimes MIT would release their courses on the web for students; try there for any information.

Good luck!
