I'm calculating hot-spot stresses at a tubular connection for input to a fatigue analysis. The Efthymiou parametric equations provide SCFs relating nominal stress in the brace to hot-spot stress in the chord.
However there is also a large axial force in the chord. The stresses in the brace are unaffected by this force and therefore the hot-spot stresses calculated as above do not take this into account.
Do I add the nominal axial stress in the chord to the chord hot-spot stresses or are these stresses not acting in the same direction?
Thanks for any help.
Cheers,
Robert
