Hello,

I'm a R&D engineer currently working on PVC sheets, that have been obtained by extrusion.

I have to find the elastics constants of this materials.

As it is anisotrope due to the fabrication process, I would like to do two tensile tests in the sheet plane, and a compression test in the perpendicular axis (sheet 3 mm thick).
Do I have to make shear tests ?

And what about the poisson's ratio ? Is there any way to measure it, other than by the lateral deformation ?

Thank you.

I believe that the Poisson's ratio could be calculated from the combined results of the 2 tensile tests and a shear test. I'm not sure of the formulas for anisotropic materials, though. If it were isotropic, the relation of G=E/(2*(1+nu)) could be used. However, I'm sure that the anisotropy will require more a complex formula. [sig][/sig]
