Elbow Fabrication

Would anyone in the group be able to point me to fabrication methods for 1.5D elbows, forgings and welded. I have heard that a elbow can be fabricated from plate steel and have one weld on the extrados. I would greatly appreciate any information.

This is (or was) true. Some years ago I was Materials Manager on a very large project. We purchased a lot of elbows for large diameter piping (36", 42" and 48"). As best as I can remember these Ells were made by Tube Turns. I have tried to find them but they seem to have been bought out by someone else.
The ells were made from two pieces of plate with a "Gut" weld (inside curve) and a "Back Bone" weld (outside curve).
The welds on these fittings were 100% x-rayed and then whole fitting was heat treated.

I suggest that you talk to your supplier.

Tube Turns is not what they used to be. The facilities are owned by Sypris,

This is a large diameter pipe 35" but I am told it only has a weld on the outside "Back Bone". I am curious to how it was fabricated or if someone is missing the inside weld.

Have you considered a mitered elbow ?

If the pressure is not to hig, they may be OK..

They can comply with ASME B31.1 and B31.3, but have pressure/tem[erature service limits.
