I'm going to cross post this in several groups...so I aplogize in advance but it does cover several areas.

I am searching for a source that can provide a door lock solenoid, but its a little different (maybe?) than the normal one.

I need the ability to use a key to unlock it normally, but on a case by case basis, be able to have the plunger be activated electrically. In other words, normally you would unlock it using a key, but maybe once a month be able to operate the solenoid from a 12VDC driver circuit. I don't want the electronics, thats the part I am doing, just the deadbolt, key and solenoid.

I require of courser, a low cost solution, and this is for a potentially high volume application.

And yes, of course, I have and will continue to google for it but havent found anything that is satisfactory.

If it for high volume why not to develop and design a custom one?
 
In addition, what are the solenoid force, plunger travel, solenoid outside dimensions and the maximum current available?
 
The company I am consulting for would *prefer* a solution that has already been in production, thus cutting the costs of developing that portion of it, and rather spend its resources on the other parts of the design.

As for the other questions

Think of a standard deadbolt lock in size, perhaps a little larger but the acutator assembly remains in that form. I'm thinking around 500mA or so on the 12VDC feed.
 
I am not familiar with door lock solenoid mechanism and how much current it draws or what are the forces needed from the solenoid. If you change the mechanism then you probably change the forces too. Therefore, the solenoid may have to be changed.

However, given the force and travel needed the solenoid can be calculated.
 
Why don't you use an electric door lock mechanism and use a keyed switch to energize it whenever you want key access? Then design your electronic override circuit to activate only on your monthly applications under whatever criteria you need.
