Hello everyone, this is my first post and its a question about replacing a 3 phase electric motor stator. I have a electric hoist that uses a 5 hp 460 volt motor and i need to replace the stator(armature is new) because all i have is 230 volts 3 phase. My question is,i cant find the exact motor to replace it with so is the frame(s215tz)what i need to look for when it comes to exact size as the stator im replacing? I have found a 215tz frame 230/460 5 hp motor and just want to make sure that the stator off of it would be identical in size to the one im replacing before i buy it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Frame sizes specify a lot of standard dimensions. Rotor OA diameter is not one of the specified dimensions. There is no guarantee that the old rotor will fit a new stator.
Check, the motor may be convertible to 230 Volts.
A motor shop may be able to reconnect the coil groups internally for 230 Volts. Much cheaper than a rewind.
Use an auto-transformer boost with two single phase transformers in open delta if you must use transformers.

Thank you Waross and everyone else as well. I talked to a guy at a repair shop and he said he might be able to reconnect the coil groups for $400 but if he cant then he would have to rewind it which would be $1600. He says once he gets inside of the stator that if he cant reconnect the coil groups then the stator is ruined and wouldnt even work on 460 at that point either and would have to be rewound. I guess i will find out tomorrow. I will let you guys know and thank you to each of you.
