Electrical engineer looking for first job 1

SO here i am, after 6 months of continous effort in finding a entry level position in my field (power systems or consulting field in building design)to no use.

Graduated with BEng-electrical in Dec 2010, from dalhousie university. i have completed two co-op terms one was in a electrical consulting firm and other is building design group in TIR (Public Works).

Since January i have applied to hundreds of companies to no avail,i have even tried some cold calling and following up with companies. got a few interviews but none called back.

any tips where am i going wrong with my JOBHUNT???????

I'm a new mech grad working in Toronto (Mississauga). When I graduated in summer 2010, it took me about 5 months to find a job. Some people never did. It might be different/better now.

I don't believe Toronto is an employment utopia of some sort. If you're going to uproot yourself, it might not be worth it. I can't speak about Calgary/Alberta from personal experience, but anecdote suggests if you're in the right field and industry, it can be a very worthwhile place to go.

With no experience you will never find work the conventional way. The only excpetions being maybe very conventional firms in petrochemical industry or companies that really invest in new blood.

Otherwise, its all about who you know not what you know.

ALLryt Good news people i have got a job with SNC lavalin as an EIT through my first informational interview....7 months of applying online and one informational interview man o man this thing works, its my 2nd job through meeting people.
