Hi zogzog;
Thanks for the compliment. Actually I didn't know all of them. However I expect to have a litle more free computer time next week and I will probably google your list and refresh my memory about the ones I knew, and find out about the ones I didn't know.
BTW, Is William Stanley the Stanley of Stanley Steamer fame?
thanks
Respectfully

Zogzog--I feel pretty good about my score,since as a metallurgist, I got a C grade in EE301!

"Swan invented the first incandescent light bulb that lasted for any practical length of time. He then worked with Edison to put it into mass production."

OK, you might have me there, but whose name is on the patent?

Woodward and Evans had the first incandescent bulb patent in 1875 (Edison later bought the rights to this patent at vast expense).
Swan had the first patent (UK) to include a carbonised filament in 1878.
Edison's patent (US) including a carbonised filament was approved in 1879.

I hope you looked that up, thats too much useless info to be clogging a brain

I new the story (but not the dates, I'm not that much of a spod!).

There used to be a fantastic TV programme here in the UK called "Local Heroes" (repeats are often shown on some of the higher numbered cable/sat channels). I almost certainly picked it up from there.

Again I say Edison, to execute William Kremmler on aug 6th 1890. Many believe that this was the next step up from his experiments (open to the public) shocking elephants, horses, dogs, etc using Westinghouses AC system to show the world how dangerous AC was compared to his DC system.

Chair inventor Harold Brown would be the correct answer.

who was the first "dead man" to be electrocuted?

Luis

OK, Harold brown invented it but Edison holds the patent. Brown worked for Edison when he invented the chair.
