Hello,

I have designed an electronics product and need to find an investor to take it to market.

I don't have finance so am willing to donate the product IP to the investor, in return i would be willing to work for them and finalise the design, get EMC tests done etc.

Do you know of anybody who'd want to listen to this proposition?

Fluorescence: Perhaps, you should think it through. Do you really want to give your product to someone and then work for them? Especially in the US, where you can be fired for no reason?

If your idea is good, you should try to find investors (venture capital, business angels, etc )for it. Not to give it away light-heartedly.
Check the internet for help how to get investment. You should find a lot of places.

thanks for all this great advice!

I cannot afford to patent it or anything, and i can't afford to set up myself, so i will be very happy to work as a designer to do these products just like any designer in any other company.

By the way, these are mains domestic LED lighting products, specially made to be long lasting and cheap as possible. some are dimmer /coloured ones with microcontroller flas/dim schemes etc but most are white lights

Can you afford about $100.00? You can get a provisional patent application for arround 80 bucks or so. Just describe you product with drawings and mail it in. Start a notebook, and get it witnessed with dates.Buy nolo press patent it yourself.

This is not legal advise I am not an attorney. Please don't sue me. I assume no liability. It is only experiencial suggestion. Not legal advice, this does not reflect on my employers crap, only an opionion of my crap. You make your own decision. Dont sue me.

I can say that if the design needs more "design" work, few will consider buying it... VC firms want ideas that are ready to implement. If it's not ready, they're not going to bite o the idea unless it is Earth-shattering in scope. If it is ready to go, they have no reason to hire you, only purchase the design straight out and bring in their own team.

I think you should think of your project like it's already money, and you're just looking for a way to turn YOUR money into cash.

Not sure what are the best ways to do in your location, though a seller's atittude at this early stage may help a lot.

Before you discuss your design with anyone be sure you document your design and have it witnessed and dated by someone (preferably another engineer) who can understand the design. This will help to protect your patent rights. Remember, in other countries it is first to file for patent rights. Once you have done this I would ask someone or several people in this forum to review your ideas. If there is a consensus that it is a valuable idea you can then work on getting investors. If you have a good idea people will be willing to invest.
