Is it possible to plot or obtain the element area in abaqus?

Assume you're talking about shell elements. Generate new results, the element area, by dividing the element volume (EVOL) by the element thickness (ETH). Should work

Thanks pam for your insight. But could u be more clear. Like is there a card you are talking about for this purpose. And I am using solid elements in my model. Thanks for your time.

I am talking about abaqus viewer where u can do mathematical operations between the results.

Please be more clear. If u r using volumetric elements what element exactly you're looking for ?

Sorry, typing error

i am trying to find force along a cross section by getting the element stress for which i need the element area. Also i could find evol but i didnt find ETH anywhere. How exactly should i go abt this?

The resultant forces within a solid will be zero as they are balanced by the forces of surrounding elements. If you want the forces at a particular section within the solid then unslect those elements to one side and then plot reaction forces. The internal forces within the solid will then be shown.

Sorry, the thickness is STH and not ETH. Makes only sense for 2D elements !

Have you tried to output NFORC? That will give you the force at the nodes
