Dear chicopee,
You can create a solid half sphere and make a block of it and scale it in 3 dimensions differently.

Set variable pellipse = 1 and draw a full ellipse
as a polyline. Draw a line along the major axis
of the ellipse. Trim the ellipse and line, then
use pedit to make your polyline profile. Revolve
the profile 360 degrees and you'll have your
ellipsoid.

Hello Chipopee,
You can create ellipsoid using the REVSURF command, you can draw a profile and then rotate that profile around an axis. SURFTAB1 AND SURFTAB2 system variables control the mesh of a revolved surface. The SURFTAB1 value determines the number of segments in the direction of rotation around the axis and SURFTAB2 value divides the path curve into segments of equal size. You even have an option to draw the ellipsoid thru 360 degrees of rotation or just a portion of that. Hope this helps - John

Hello Chipopee,
In going over your post carefully, all 3d objects in ACAD has surfaces. When you plot your ellipsoid, you have the option of printing in PS isometric. My previous post will generate a 3D wireframe model. The wires can be controled through SURFTAB1 and SURFTAB2 system variables. You can futher reduce the wires thu the HIDE command. You can use isometric construction to build single line ellipoid in three dimensions. You set isometric variables in the Drafting Setting dialog box. To access this dialog box, enter DS, SE, DSETTING, RM, or DDRMODES at the command prompt. I'm not sure what you want?

Thanks for the replies;however I think that FH solution is the correct one--all other solutions are good but I am quiet sure the ellipsoids will not be solids--I have already tried relvolved surfaces w/ surftabs 1 & 2 set at 50 on a 2D ellipse but this did not create a solid ellipsoid.

and to add to FH's reply... making that 1/2 sphere exactly 1 unit diameter (0.5 unit radius) when you insert it you can specify it's x,y&z scales... to get the desired effect (or at least have some known control).

FH- your suggestion was excellent and I kick myself for not thinking about it. There is one flaw with your rec. and that is the block will not become a solid but just a block reference with no solid properties. Exploding this block ref. will also not work. I came to the conclusion that ACAD can not create solid ellipsoids.
