I have a littel confusion with Compress concept with estimating the joint efficiency due to RT applied to Cat-B welds in 2:1 Ellip Heads and Cylinders.
Suppose;
Case 1: Head is seamless, RT for Circumferential weld between head and shell is Spot, and Shell is also Spot. What should be the E for head?
Case 2: Cylinder with Longitudinal seam Full RT, Circumferential seam Spot, what should be the E for the cylinder?

M.Salaheldin,

1- Long. seam= 0,85
Circ. seam=0,85
1- RT 2 Long. seam= 1,00
Circ. seam=0,85
3- If Long. seam is full RT and head is also full RT, E should be 1.00.

Is your reply applicable for the head? note that head is seamless.

Note that the joint efficiencies for the seamless head's required thickness calculation and that for the cylinder's required thickness based on circumferential stress will vary depending upon whether the requirement of UW-11(a)(5)(b) are met or not. COMPRESS provides options to specify the circumferential seams as "Spot UW-11(b)" or "Spot UW-11(a)(5)(b)". Whichever is selected will determine the joint efficiency applied for the head and cylinder thickness calculations.

Refer to Code paragraphs UW-12(a), UW-12(d), UW-12(e), and UW-11(a)(5).

Also to the joint efficiency flowcharts given in Appendix L and to the examples given in previous Editions of Appendix L (now in the separate publication).

Thanks Mr. Tom. It is really very nice to read your replies since we have already missed you in Compress Technical Support Team. For the last 2-3 years we received replies from different persons.
