elongation in a point or area

I am analyzing a joint K of rectangular hollow section, my doubt is the elongation I can take a point or I need an area, because in a point I put the sensor of medition (galga) to plot force - deformation curve.

Recommended for you

force "at a point" is probably force "on a node". A node has an effective area, shared between a number of elements.
