Does anyone know of someone making embedded or really "embeddable" chassis drives for small (1/2HP) 460V motors? I know of several who do that for 230V drives, but I have not seen it for 480V, at least not yet. I'm looking for an embeddable version because there is a lot of uncommon communications and control interfacing that needs to be added along with specialized packaging, so a NEMA 1 (IP20) enclosed drive is going to be a waste and likely too expensive for this project.

danfoss is the only one i know of that has a driver integrated into the motor. Is this what you mean by embeddable? and its 480vac 3ph. I am not sure you can get a fractional hp at 480vac. The low end usually stops around 3/4 to 1/2 hp for most manufacturers.

What's the volume?
We have a low power drives division that makes customised drives to whatever spec you put forward, but the volume needs to be there..>35-40k pieces

10K units /year Patrick. I'm trying to get your friend Alex interested, but you know what his obstacles are going to be... The nature of the project is that I don't want to lose the whole thing over a relatively small part of it, so I am trying to help my partners find an alternate source for this.

controlsdude,
Thanks, but no, I don't mean embedded with the motor, I mean a "board level" drive that can be embedded in a larger control system that has to squeeze into a small box. Still, thanks to both of you for bringing up Danfoss' capability, I was unaware that they were doing that at any level.

jraef; I'm looking at a 460V 1HP drive that in singles is $155. It's fan cooled and is in a box 5.63"H x 4.65W x 6.76D. You could un-case these, or not, but they seem immanently embeddable as is. Leaving them cased gets you finger safety.

I think that bump on Alex's forehead might get slightly bigger with that task...
I can look into what we could do and contact you offline if you wish. Is it only comms input and no I/O? (What protocol are you looking at?)
