EMBEDMENT OF PILE INTO THE PILE CAP

It is conventional to embed the concrete pile in the pile cap by 3/4 inch . Is this a good practice to give an idea firming of pile upto the cap. Do we get any advantage in lateral/uplift load sharing.
Can some one tell me whether it is mandatory as per any code

Our structural embed the pile 75mm into the pile cap I understand. I dont think 3/4 inch is sufficient, just by judgement...

2018 IBC section 1810.3.11 requires 3" embedment

3/4" would give you a small bit of additional shear capacity at the interface, but we usually use 3" to give us the greatest increase in shear capacity without affecting the reinforcing in the bottom of the cap, which is 3" clear.

I've always used 75mm (i.e. about 2.5")
