At UL training for 61010-1, the trainer stated that software could not be used to prevent an electrical or shock hazard unless the software was designed and documented to certain other safety standards. For example, such software could not be relied upon to sense that a door was open and turn off voltage on accessible conductors. He basically said this kind of interlock has to be hardwired or safety-rated software must be used. (61010-1 also goes on to require that the interlocks have some redundancy or be subjected to a test where the interlocks are tested for twice the number of operations that are anticipated over the life of the product)

I don't have any issue with the instructor, but my management is pushing back. Now that I am doing some research, I cannot find the statements made by the trainer in writing.

Can anyone help?
