Under EN13445 are materials not listed in Part 2 Annex 2 A able to be used at elevated temperatures (say 290C)? If so, what must be done to make them suitable? I am looking at a piece of equipment containing EN10216.1 P235 TR2, EN10025 S275 JR and EN10255 S195T. Are these compliant and if so what is the process to make them acceptable?

Hi,
I was wondering similarly, in what temperatures can I use EN 10216-1 P235GTR1 pipes and why? Where is it specified?

P235TR2 according EN 10216-1 is listed in EN 13445-2. But this standard is explicitly defined for room temperature service. Therefore you will not find minimum values at 290°C. P235GH according EN 10216-2 is the adequate steel grade for service at 290°C.
S275JR according EN 10025 is a structural steel and therefore not a harmonized standard under the pressure equipment directive and not listed in EN 13445-2. If used, a particular material appraisal is necessary. P275NH according EN 10028-2 is the adequate steel grade for service at 290°C.
S195T according EN 10255 is also a structural steel. Same comment as for S275JR
P235GTR1: I do not find this designation in EN 10216-1. P235TR1 is not listed neither in EN 13445 (pressure vessels) nor in EN 13480 (piping) as this grade does not fulfill the essential safety requirments of PED, see

ulyssess,

Thank you for your response. What is typically required for a particular material appraisal? I assume some high temperature tensiles would need to be produced. At 290C, I cannot see any issues with the micorstructure. If we were going to above 350C, then I could accept there may be some degredation.

Conc. particular material appraisal see
In my opinion your material choice will not fulfill the essential safety requirements of PED. According Guideline 7/24 you need a material specification with specified minimum values at elevated temperatures confirmed by the material manufacturer. None of your materials will fulfill this requirement. A simple retesting by your own is not sufficient.
Other possible problems
- impact testing
- test frequency. E.g. S275JR as structural steel is tested only per lot. According PE-03-28 you need a testing as per corresponding EN 10028, e.g. per plate.
I suggest to use pressure vessel materials designed for elevated temperatures.
