Is there an engineering job based in the US that lets you work or be abroad for few months in a year? I did test&measurement automation and am currently doing CPU validation.

Depends on the company. My last employer had an Engineer in China for most of the year overseeing start up on a new product line.

I am currently working outside the mainland US (Puerto Rico). I am mostly helping the less experienced improve their skills. There are or when the economy gets going, will be jobs for experienced people.

look at some of the bigger company's websites. ge for example.

Being a field service engineer is a good way to be sited overseas and collect non-taxable per diem as well. Also, in some companies, one cannot be promoted to upper management unless you either have field experieince or marry the boss'es daughter.
